Gov. Gregoire announces member appointments to the Citizens Committee on Pipeline Safety
Governor Chris Gregoire has announced the appointment of the following members to the Citizens Committee on Pipeline Safety.
Christian Amend of Pasco has been appointed to a term effective August 1, 2012, ending July 31, 2015. Christian is a Cognizant System Engineer for Bechtel National, Inc. and a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University.
David Taylor of Ridgefield has been re-appointed to a term effective August 1, 2012, ending July 31, 2015. David is a council member serving the City of Ridgefield since 2008. David has an extensive background in natural gas pipeline industries and was responsible for the design, permitting and construction of pipeline and station projects. He is a member of American Society of Mechanicals Engineers (ASME) and National Society of Professional Engineers.
Tim Sweeney of Olympia has been re-appointed to a term effective August 1, 2012, ending July 31, 2015. Tim is the Marketing Director with the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board. Sweeney is a former Policy Coordinator for the UTC’s Pipeline Safety Program and served as the UTC’s representative on the state Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council. He also volunteers as a senior mediator with the Thurston County Dispute Resolution Center.
Jody Morehouse of Spokane has been re-appointed to a term effective August 1, 2012, ending July 31, 2015. Jody’s regular position at Avista is as the Manager of Gas Compliance for Avista Corporation, and is currently on temporary assignment for a special project. As a manager, Jody is responsible for the pipeline safety codes and regulations for the gas delivery business. Jody received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Montana State University and holds a Professional Engineering License. She has worked at Avista for over 23 years. In addition, Jody was also a member to the UTC Dig Law (RCW 19.122) Work Group Committee from 2009-2010, a past board member of the Oregon Utility Notification Center, and a past Chair to the Western Gas Measurement Short Course.
Ron W. Schmitt of Tacoma has been re-reappointed to a term effective August 1, 2012, ending July 31, 2015. Ron is a Fire Fighter/Paramedic from Snohomish County Fire District 1. He is a member of IAFF.
Corey Herrick of Tacoma has been re-appointed to a term effective August 1, 2012, ending July 31, 2015. Corey is a Chief Engineer for McChord Pipeline Co., subsidiary of U.S. Oil and Refining Co. As chief engineer, Corey is responsible for development and oversight of the integrity management program, inspection, maintenance and pipeline regulatory compliance.
The 13-member committee, created by the Legislature in 2000, is to advise state, federal and local agencies on the construction, operation, maintenance and routing of hazardous liquid and natural gas pipelines in Washington. The committee consists of nine voting members representing the public, including local government, and elected officials. Four non-voting members represent owners and operators of hazardous liquid and gas pipelines. The members serve three-year staggered terms. The committee is staffed by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, Pipeline Safety Program.
